Winter Ice Claims Early Victim
16th November 2007, at 13:10 – On the main road between Lapua and Alajärvi I came across a simple but expensive accident. Icy road conditions had caused a truck-trailer’s brakes to lock up as the truck turned into a parking area for a rest. The trailer slid onto the soft shoulder, and thence down into the ditch, before turning on its side and dragging the rear of the truck, rather neatly, into the position shown in the pictures.
I pulled over to see if I could be of any help, but the truck driver was calmly phoning for assistance, and assured me that all was well. I drove a little more slowly after that.
